IgniterSpace and Thrimana signed a MOU

IgniterSpace is Sri-Lanka’s first ever Technology MakerSpace for kids. Their mission is to foster innovation & creativity within the young generation of the World. They cater for kids between 5 & 15 years of age. IgniterSpace has a very unorthodox method of education where they focus more on the practical side of education rather than concentrate just on theory. The prime goal of IgniterSpace is to change the way kids think. They have branches in Narahenpita, Gampaha & Negombo. They are planning to open in Moratuwa soon.

At IgniterSpace Kids are inspired to look at their day-to-day surroundings, and identify pain points that they see. Kids are then trained to innovate creations to solve these identified pain point(s).

To carry out Innovation, you need to be knowledgeable in technology. Therefore, IgniterSpace teaches kids engineering in the fields of Electronics, Robotics, Computer Programming & Mechanics.

At IgniterSpace, they start by first getting kids to develop a passion towards creating technology and working with various forms of engineering.

Then they will get to develop their knowledge on various areas of engineering such as Mechanics, Electronics, Computer programming. They will engage with many hands on activities that will help them develop their knowledge on technology creation.

Next then will move onto exploring & experimenting. Here they will try out variations and will come up with their own innovations.

Now that the kids have a good understanding about technology creation, a good passion for being innovative & good experience with experimenting, they are ready to develop their own innovations and take a prototype to market.

Here IgniterSpace teaches kids various techniques to develop a production grade prototype in Level 4 & 5. In this stage kids explore entrepreneurship & get training on various aspects of it like bootstrapping, digital marketing, getting investments, etc

IgniterSpace believing that the education system should not just teach students to ‘USE’ the technology of today, but must guide them to ‘CREATE’ the technology of tomorrow. To empower kids to be creative IgniterSpace uses 3D printing technology for the first time in kids education platform in Sri lanka. They teach kids 3D modelling, Slicing, 3D printing to enable them to create real-world prototypes of their innovations.

IgniterSpace has partnered with Thrimana, Sri-lanka’s leading 3D printer brand for this purpose. Thrimana was not only able to provide IgniterSpace with 3D printing equipment but workshops and other trainings.

Furthermore, IgniterSpace and Thrimana signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the 27th of June 2017 at IgniterSpace offices in Colombo with the presence of Rajitha De Silva, CEO of Thrimana & Jehan Wijesinghe, Co-Founder & CEO of IgniterSpace.

Few years ago 3D printing know how in Sri Lanka was very little even though the technology was introduced to Sri Lanka a decade ago. As a pioneer of 3D Printing industry in Sri Lanka Thrimana shoulder the burden and responsibility at bringing the nation to the forefront of this technology. To bridge the gap cooperated with several government and non-government organizations to spread awareness on this. This collaboration also a result of the work carried out by Thrimana so far. The kids in IgniterSpace are going to be the kids who are using 3D printers as a tool for their development for the first time in Sri Lanka. So this will be a historical moment of Sri Lankan 3D printing industry.

Thrimana & IgniterSpace plan on jointly working together in taking the concept & knowledge of 3D printing to all forms of you

In these photographs you can see how L4 and L5 students at IgniterSpace use a Thrimana 3D printer to design & print their creations
